Report by Eliza; photos by Sonja
This social event was held in the function room at the Rutland Arms pub. It was organised by our resourceful social committee: David, Sonja and Patrick, which we all thank them for. The event was very cheerful because we celebrated the wins of 3 divisions from our teams: Combined, Men’s I and Men’s II. Great season everyone!
We were all welcomed with a very nice glass of sparkling wine. The room was nicely decorated with the Broomgrove club logo and the classic “Whoopass!” 🙂
The evening started with a pub quiz put together by Sonja. The questions were really tough though and put everyone’s knowledge and creativity (to be read quick google-ing skills) to the test.
I think everyone’s favourite part of the quiz was the very last part, which included superimposed pictures of 2 club players. Quite a few people agreed that Gerry and Sally merged very well together.
The presentation started with checking some answers for the quiz and then quickly moved on to the awards. These started with the special awards, worthily earned by:
Steve, for putting together the kit for the team.
Ada, for designing the excellent club logo.Kate, declared Broomgrove player of the year. Given Kate was unfortunately not present, Sonja, wearing a Kate face mask, received the award for her.
Then each team captain, minus Steve, awarded the selected season player with two trophies. The trophy winners were:
The second round of pub quiz answers cross-check also decided the winning team as: Mike, Joe and the lovely ladies in their team. A great team effort at the pub quiz from Men’s II has to be acknowledged.
Given it was James’ birthday on the Monday after the social event, he received an unappreciated birthday cake and Happy birthday! singing from all of us.
After the official ceremonies were over, everybody was up for more partying. So people went to the Old House on Division Street, and afterwards the party animals Andrew and Mike continued to, I believe, Weststreet Live. Overall a very memorable night full of fun, drinks, trophies, unexpected cash for Jarek and great friends.
Next in our calendars is the Sheffield Badminton social!
Before I forget, a special thanks go to Mark for having the trophies made for the occasion.
See you all this week for some long awaited badminton at Pearson!
Extras: In an attempt to make this report more suited for the end of season and awards, I asked each of the club members present on that evening to share their favourite part of the night. So, here is what I received back:
Gerry: “Oh that’s easy. Mine was Craig unintentionally opening Ada’s bottle prize as we had run out behind the bar! Dancing in the Old House looking like an idiot I suspect.”
Craig: “Getting bought a round with the wod of cash found on the street”
Joe: “storming the quiz, drinking lots of leftover fizzy from other peoples glasses, jareks brilliant find on the street”
James: “Receiving a birthday cake and then dropping it in your (Eliza’s) cider. ”
Sonja: “Losing that wad of cash on division street definitely wasn’t my favourite.”
Ada: “exam on badminton history…and sonja receiving Kate’s award on her behalf wearing a Kate face ‘mask'” I have to agree with Ada, I really liked the face mask bit too!
