After quite a while away from writing match reports the mens team are back.
The new year has begun and on the back of 3 wins in a row, the mens team journeyed down the road to one of our local rivals Abbeydale. After losing closely in the home fixture 5-4 Broomgrove were raring to go and would not underestimate their opponent.
As for the away venue, the new flooring was a welcome sight, as our youthful team full of fluid movements could change direction on a milk bottle top. However what has not changed is the high roof which makes it difficult for the hall to warm up, meaning killing off raleigh’s is difficult as the shuttle is much slower than we are used to at the speedy and attacking Pearson building.
The first set of rubbers played all at the same time, set the tone for the match, 3 close games, all won by Broomgrove. 2 going to 3 ends with the first ends being won by Abbeydale, but Broomgrove then became familiar with the hall and won both rubbers in 3, the other finishing in 2 with Mike and Peter winning to 18 and 19.
3-0 to start.
The middle rubbers were closer still with all 3 rubbers going the full distance to 3 ends. After a poor first end Craig and Adam came back to win in style to 6 and 12, with David and Joe keeping calm in the final end to win to 15, whilst a valient effort from Peter and Mike was not quite enough to beat the oppositions best pair missing out in the final rubber to 14.
The match was already won as the 3rd set of rubbers began, Mike and Peter and Joe and David making light work of the opposition both winning in 2 ends whilst Craig and Adam despite winning their first end lost in 3, meaning all of their rubbers went to 3 ends.
Overall a very good win away from home with 6 of the 9 matches going to 3 ends. PMC1 up next on the 21st of Jan again away from home. After a stuttering start to the season, could Broomgrove have an undefeated 2013 which would leave us with 8 wins from 12 games….enough for 3rd place??????
david & joe +8.5
peter & mike +6.5
craig & adam + 5.5
