Match report by Peter Talbot:
What a good way spend a wet and cold Sunday afternoon with a nice game of badminton.
The sense of well-being was heightened even further when finding the sports hall walls were painted a nice mellow pastel shade of yellow.
It soon became evident however that pastel yellow may be good for Lawrence Llewelyn-Bowen but does not offer a very good background for viewing badminton shuttlecocks. Further problems arose from the flooring which although it was nice and springy was quite slippery offering only limited amounts of traction.
Thus into the first pair of rubbers which were extremely hard fought but the home team took full advantage of the conditions and both ultimately went to the home teams in three. Iris and Jen battled very well but had the extreme misfortune to come up against their second lady who was a very talented badminton player.
Going into the second round both Jen and Sally and Peter and Steve comfortably won their matches to take the match score to two apiece. Alas this was the high water mark. Some good badminton was played but only Jen and Peter managed to take their mixed doubles. Jen played exceptionally well and consistently played top notch badminton which bodes very well for the second half of the season.
So the final result a hard fought 6 – 3 loss, offers plenty of encouragement for the return fixture at fortress Broomgrove when then elements will be in our favour.
